The history of the building is as exciting as the slot floor. The former Tollgate and Golden Rose buildings were reconstructed to flow with the new addition. The property encompasses an entire city block along Main Street in the heart of Central City. Many of the hotel rooms maintain their original physical features as well as some interesting spirits of past tenants. The buildings were constructed after the Great Fire of 1874 destroyed most of the business district. The Golden Rose building has been home to important businesses such as a jeweler, a grocery store, a bakery, a liquor store, a fruit stand and appropriately, a card room. The Toll Gate Building opened as a market, became a saloon, then morphed into an antique store.
